A long time ago I had my cards in a farm gift craft shop out in apple country. The owner, since it was summer, asked me if I had any cards for fall. Well no, I didn't, I would have to make some. Most of my art back then was painting on location. The leaves here in Maine had not changed yet. I would have to invent these scenes. I sat in the local bagel shop with four little pieces of paper making up Maine fantasy fall scenes. The watercolor paper was quite small 3 1/2" x 5", so I was painting with very little brushes. It was a surprise to see how they came out. I was quite pleased. Judging by the dates, this was the last in the series. It has more brilliant colors than the rest of the series, with the foreground of yellowish meadow and blue hills in the background and all kinds of fall foliage in the middle ground.

Now with modern technology it can be enlarged to see from a distance. It is a good thing I painted the original on hot press paper, a very smooth paper.

In Maine you'll find coastal views with red poppies dancing in the summer breeze, blue & purple lupine sloping down a hillside to the water. From here in Rockland you can see the breakwater lighthouse and walk 1/2(?) mile out in the harbor to reach it. You can also go to Port Clyde to visit Marshall Point lighthouse, which you may remember from Forest Gump's (the movie) run across the U.S.A. The Belted Galloway cows herd graze peacefully at Rockport's Aldermere Farm and offer idyllic watching of these strong gentle cattle.
